Compass

Last year, I began reading the transcript of the Nuremberg Trials. I haven’t finished that project yet.

But its stellar-cast adaptation is now streaming on Netflix. The urgency and moral weight of the film, emphasizing why the trials were held and why the story must be retold, are palpably woven through every scene.

“If we could psychologically define evil,” Rami Malek declares, “we could make sure something like this never happens again. “

Unfortunately, that doesn’t prove to be true. Moral compasses get lost and people with them. Evil resurfaces. Blind eyes still turn.

History doesn’t repeat itself.
We do.
